Resumen

El turismo médico es una industria en expansión que ha despertado un interés académico cada vez mayor. Este estudio bibliométrico, basado en 2477 documentos, emplea técnicas de análisis de rendimiento y mapas de redes para examinar el estado actual de la investigación en este campo. Su propósito es proporcionar una visión integral de producción científica, identificando tendencias, patrones de publicación y actores clave como países, revistas, y autores influyentes, así como las principales líneas temáticas y vacíos en la literatura. Los temas más estudiados incluyen los riesgos y complicaciones del turismo médico, sus impactos socioeconómicos, el turismo de fertilidad y los tratamientos con células madre, la gestión de destinos turísticos y las estrategias de marca en salud. Asimismo, se abordan cuestiones relacionadas con la satisfacción del paciente, la sostenibilidad de los modelos de negocio y el papel de las tecnologías emergentes en la prestación de servicios. El estudio identificó áreas que requieren mayor atención, como el impacto del turismo médico en los países de origen y destino, la calidad y seguridad de los servicios, las experiencias de los turistas médicos y las implicaciones éticas. Los hallazgos de esta investigación documental buscan establecer las bases para futuros estudios y políticas que maximicen los beneficios y mitiguen los riesgos del turismo médico.
