Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the research trend on determinants and risk management in peer-to-peer (P2P) loan crowdfunding to enhance investors,’ entrepreneurs,’ and policymakers’ understanding of this disruptive form of financing. Methods: A qualitative approach was employed, focusing on publications related to credit risk. Subsequently, a bibliometric analysis of scientific production was conducted using the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The bibliometric analysis was conducted using the VOSviewer and RStudio platforms (Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny libraries), identifying four current thematic research clusters focusing on knowledge production. A theoretical approach was then conducted based on the most relevant findings from the descriptive analysis. Results and Discussions: P2P loan crowdfunding is emerging in Latin America and requires attention to credit risk associated with borrowers and online platforms. Factors limiting investors’ ability to identify and interpret predictive and evaluative risk models expose them to high probabilities of borrower payment default. Conclusions: Strengthening regulations within the countries where it operates is necessary to instill credibility and trust in this disruptive market.
