Abstract

The phenomenon of internet mediation in the person work relationship necessitates an analysis of labor organization forms that differ from traditional work structures. Digital platform work represents one of these forms. Therefore, the objective of this literature review was to analyze the perspectives from which this concept has been addressed in the scientific domain. A qualitative approach was adopted for this literature review, utilizing a metanarrative method. The Scopus database and Tree of Science procedures were employed to identify a corpus of 80 documents, which were processed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that the concept is primarily studied from two traditions. The first describes digital platform work as a new type of labor that generates precarious working conditions or as a new type of worker subject who suffers under these conditions. The second emphasizes the need for additional comprehensive approaches to better understand this form of work. The adjective new found in these traditions was analyzed, along with the necessity of framing this form of labor organization within a historical-economic perspective. It is suggested that the complexity of the concept opens the door to exploring alternative understandings in future research agendas.
