Reviewers

Peer review policy

Peer review is defined as obtaining advice on individual manuscripts from subject matter experts who are not part of the journal’s editorial staff. Desarrollo Gerencial subjects all articles to a peer review process to ensure the quality and scientific rigor of the submitted manuscripts.

Reviews are conducted using the double-blind method, meaning that the article is sent in complete anonymity. In this stage, two expert reviewers are assigned to evaluate the article based on the journal's editorial policies and review format.

The review process begins after the receipt of the article and verification of the necessary documentation (provided by the authors). The process consists of three stages: a preliminary evaluation, followed by a peer expert review, and finally, a validation stage to conclude the process.

The reviewers for Desarrollo Gerencial are national and/or international researchers who are experts in the field of management. Their role is to ensure the quality and originality of the articles proposed for publication. They must base their evaluations on objectivity and impartiality, exercising control over biases related to the subject matter and personal preferences.

Reviewers must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a master's, doctoral, or postdoctoral degree.
  • Be active researchers in the field addressed by the article.
  • Have scientific publications in the field of management or related areas

To confirm these qualifications, reviewers must provide a professional resume, including their highest level of academic achievement and scientific publications in the field of management.

Their main responsibility is to verify that the content of the article meets the standards of excellence established by the scientific community. These standards include adherence to the scientific method, an adequate review of the background supporting the research, validation of the applied methodologies to ensure they are current and relevant, clear and precise use of language, and rigor in the analysis, interpretation of results, discussion with the literature, and validation or rejection of hypotheses. In summary, they are responsible for reviewing the quality, originality, relevance, contribution, and potential ethical violations of the article submitted to the journal.

Evaluation process

Desarrollo Gerencial, as a peer-reviewed publication, subjects all of its articles to an evaluation process designed to ensure the quality and scientific rigor of the submitted manuscripts. The double-blind methodology is applied as a strategy to guarantee transparency in the evaluation of scientific articles.

This evaluation corresponds to the second stage of the editorial process. The editor of the journal selects and classifies articles that meet the submission guidelines and assigns reviewers based on their expertise and research interests. Additionally, the number of articles in the queue and the availability of reviewers determine the review process.

Initially, two peer reviewers are assigned to the manuscript under the double-blind modality, meaning that the authors do not have access to personal information about the reviewers, and vice versa.

The criteria that need to be evaluated are as follows:

  1. Relevance and pertinence of the article to the journal.
  2. Formal aspects of the article.
  3. Content-related aspects of the article.

The evaluations should be conducted taking into account the elements outlined in the reviewer evaluation format.

Reviewers can issue two types of assessments:

  • Quantitative assessment: rated from 5 to 1, with 5 being the highest and 1 the lowest.
  • Qualitative assessment: four possible responses:
    • Accept the article as is: the article meets the criteria of form, content, and quality, and can be published without changes.
    • Accept the article with minor modifications: adjustments or easily fixable changes are required. The author will have 5 days to make these changes.
    • Accept the article with major revisions: the article requires significant and in-depth modifications, necessitating a new review to evaluate the adjustments made. The author will have 15 days to make these changes.
    • Article not accepted: the manuscript is not suitable for publication due to significant issues that would require a complete rewrite. This document is rejected and will not be reevaluated.

Reviewers will have a period of fifteen (15) days to complete their review. If there is no consensus among the reviewers, a third reviewer will be selected to address the discrepancy if necessary. Reviewers will have three (3) days to accept or decline the request for evaluation.

Once the reviewers provide their feedback, it is communicated to the lead author. If the article was not accepted by the peers, the author is informed subtly. If the article was accepted with suggestions, the anonymous evaluation is sent to the author for the necessary adjustments.

The reviewers' recommendations are not determinative for the acceptance or rejection of submitted articles (possible outcomes: qualitative and quantitative assessments), as the final decision rests with the chief editor.

If both reviewers suggest not publishing the article, it will be automatically rejected, even if it has satisfactorily completed the preliminary evaluation stage. Conversely, if the reviewers recommend that the article should be published but with modifications, the author will receive both the evaluated article and their feedback for correction. The author must then resubmit the revised work to the journal along with a letter acknowledging the reviewers' suggestions.

In all cases, the editorial board of Desarrollo Gerencial has the final decision on the rejection or acceptance of the article.

Conflict of interest

A conflict of interest may arise when reviewers cannot objectively and impartially review an article. This situation can arise in any of the following situations:

  1. They have a personal, family, professional, or business relationship with the author.
  2. They work, have worked, or have published with the author.
  3. They will be working with the author on a similar research project or proposal.
  4. They are working on a similar subject.

Reviewers must report to the editor, in the invitation or in the process, any conflict of interest.

Certification

After the evaluation, the journal Desarrollo Gerencial sends reviewers a certificate acknowledging participation in the process, which may be freely used by the evaluator. For the issuance of this certificate, reviewers shall send their professional resumes and be duly registered on the OJS platform.

Review form

The review process is the core of editorial management and allows the articles meeting the quality criteria to be published to be identified. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance for Desarrollo Gerencial that authors and reviewers identify the review process of the articles and find out which forms are used to evaluate the manuscripts.
