Abstract

Objective: evaluate the impact of the Not Invented Here Syndrome (NIHS) on Knowledge Hiding (KH) and
the Strategic Orientation towards Digitalization (SOD). At the same time, it seeks to close the research gap
of non-maturity of the construct of employee knowledge concealment. Method: it is a correlational study
with a cross-sectional quantitative approach. The information was collected through a structured survey
composed of 17 items and applied to ninety (90) manufacturing and service companies and analyzed using
structural equations. Results: The findings show that the “not-invented-here” syndrome positively affects
knowledge hiding by playing dumb and reasoned knowledge hiding. And hiding knowledge by playing dumb
negatively affects the strategic orientation towards digitalization. Conclusions: The “not-invented-here”
syndrome positively influences evasive hiding as a type of knowledge hiding, it cannot be accepted. The “notinvented-
here” syndrome positively influences reasoned concealment as a type of knowledge concealment,
it can be accepted. Finally, hiding knowledge by pretending to ignore the requested knowledge negatively
influences the strategic orientation towards digitalization.
