This study established the relationship between Academic Performance (AP) and mental health in university students of the Simón Bolívar. The regional problems with regard to the educational level and the need to present hypothesis that go beyond the economic variables were the reasons of this study. At regional level, the low results obtained through SABER, ICFES and ECAES tests have shown the need to explain what occurs from the State investment, and the possible solutions from the own actors to this situation. Therefore, a correlational study was carried out with 217 university students of different sex, intentionally selected, who responded to six questionnaires adapted by Martínez, Tirado and Ochoa (2005), related to each variable. The main results indicate that AP correlates negatively with the anxiety state. Besides, significant higher academic averages were found in the students that have not failed
any semester and that study all the subjects projected for the same semester. With the study variables remainder, significant differences were not found.
